NEWS Update

Welcome to the Extended Schools area of the Francis Combe Academy website

Francis Combe Academy is an Extended School and has a vast array of Extended School activities happening at school every day. Activities happen before and after school and at lunch time, e.g. Table tennis, chess, dance groups, science groups, football, reading groups, art clubs and study support clubs. Click here to find out more.

Francis Combe Academy is the Hub Co-ordinator for 16 other schools in the North Watford area. The North Watford Extended Schools Consortium is a busy and thriving consortium with activities available for all age groups and abilities.  Our website www.hertsextendedschools.org.uk/northwatford is updated on a regular basis, listing all of the services and activities in the area for you, your child and your family.

What is an Extended School?

Being an Extended School means that Francis Combe Academy is open from 8am for study support. It has a varied menu of activities for its students to do at lunch time and after school, offers parenting support and allows community groups the opportunity to use the school buildings for their activities.

As an Extended School we recognise that we cannot work alone in helping children and young people to achieve their potential. We therefore decide to work in partnership with other agencies that have an interest in outcomes for children and young people, and with the local community. In doing so, it aims to help meet not only the school’s objectives but also to share in helping to meet the wider needs of children, young people, families and their community.

Extended Schools Team

The Extended Schools Team, from Left to Right: Germaine, Hazel, Steve and Natalie.

The Extended Schools Team

The team is overseen by Vice Principal of the Extended Academy, Steve McShannon.

The Extended Schools Coordinator (Esco)

Germaine Matthews is the Esco for the North Watford area. It is her role and responsibility to support schools to meet the Extended Schools agenda and ensure that there are services for everyone at the schools. Germaine is also responsible for meeting all the providers and partners that work in our area and making sure that they are not only providing a good quality service but also that they are safe to work with children. Germaine also puts together our newsletters for the consortium and makes sure our website is up to date.  Germaine is contactable on Mobile 07824900155 or on the office telephone 01923 665864.

Family Support Worker (FSW)

Hazel Pegler is the FSW for the North Watford area. It’s her role to provide parents with information and support regarding any parenting or family matters, financial issues or other challenges facing the family. Hazel is available to provide support and information over the telephone or email. She is also available to support parents and families one on one. You can contact Hazel directly for assistance or your school can make a referral for you.  Hazel has a wealth of knowledge of local services in the area that might be able to help you overcome whatever it is you are facing. Hazel is contactable on Mobile 07876543691 or on the office telephone 01923 665864.

Community Development Manager

Natalie Pike is the Community Development Manager for both the Francis Combe Academy and the Extended Schools consortium for North Watford.  Natalie manages the Esco and the FSW and is responsible for linking the community to the Academy together.  Natalie works closely with the three identified community groups for the Academy – the elderly, the youth and the Boundary Way residents. Her role is to ensure that the Academy is providing support, activities, services and promotion of the three community groups.
